LOGGERS COMMUNITY COMPANY LTD - KEY POLICIES

At Loggers Community Company Ltd, we believe that it is possible to manage large areas of industrial forestland responsibly — maintaining the highest standards of environmental stewardship while running a successful and sustainable business.

Our policies are built around this vision, ensuring that every operation contributes to the long-term ecological, social, and economic vitality of our forests. Key elements of our policy include:

  • The identification and preservation of old-growth trees;

  • Strategic plans for forest rehabilitation and habitat restoration;

  • Measures to minimize road-related sedimentation in streams and waterways;

  • Long-term forest management planning and continuous improvement;

  • Commitment to third-party certification to ensure transparency and accountability;

  • An open-door policy, welcoming stakeholders and visitors to tour our forest operations at any time.

With these principles guiding our actions, Loggers Community Company Ltd continues to lead by example — combining environmental responsibility with sustainable growth and community benefit.

Reliable Logging Services

Management of Old-Growth Forests

 At Loggers Community Company Ltd, we take great pride in protecting and managing our old-growth forests with the highest standards of care and responsibility. These ancient trees are vital to the ecological balance of our environment, providing habitat, biodiversity, and climate stability. Our policy ensures that old-growth areas are carefully identified, preserved, and integrated into our sustainable forest management plans — securing their legacy for future generations.

Restoring Conifer Balance and Responsible Herbicide Use

At Loggers Community Company Ltd, a key goal of our forest management is to restore and maintain the natural balance of conifers on our forestlands. In some areas, hardwood species have overtaken conifers due to past logging and land-use practices. To correct this imbalance and support healthy forest regeneration, we use manual, targeted herbicide applications only where necessary — never through large-scale spraying.

Our herbicide use is strictly regulated and performed by trained professionals under approved environmental guidelines. Applications are done on a plant-by-plant basis, always outside water protection zones and with full safety compliance.

We also actively research and test alternative, non-chemical methods such as mechanical cutting and natural-based treatments, aiming to reduce and eventually phase out herbicide use in line with our commitment to sustainable forestry and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) principles.

Through these responsible practices, Loggers Community Company Ltd continues to promote forest restoration, protect biodiversity, and ensure long-term ecological health.

Silviculture & Harvest Methods

At Loggers Community Company Ltd, we manage our forestlands with a long-term vision: restoring and maintaining healthy, diverse forests with trees of varying sizes and ages. We do not use traditional clearcutting; instead, we retain key elements of the forest, including old-growth trees, snags, downed wood, and undisturbed soil, to preserve ecological balance.

Our forest management combines even-aged and uneven-aged silviculture to meet ecological and business goals:

Uneven-aged Management

  • Single Tree Selection: Thins conifer-dominated stands to promote growth while maintaining canopy cover.

  • Group Selection: Creates small openings in Douglas-fir or mixed stands to allow regeneration and growth.

  • Transition Silviculture: Gradually converts unbalanced stands into diverse, multi-aged forests.

Even-aged Management

  • Variable Retention: Retains 10–40% of trees in harvested areas, preserving ecological structure while supporting replanting and natural regeneration of redwood, Douglas-fir, and other species.

Through these practices, Loggers Community Company Ltd ensures sustainable harvesting, promotes forest restoration, and supports long-term ecological, social, and economic vitality.

Habitat Conservation and Sustainable Forest Management

Our major goals is to protect and enhance habitats for both aquatic and land-based species. Through long-term collaboration with environmental agencies and stakeholders, we implement conservation plans that ensure the survival and recovery of rare, threatened, and endangered species.

Our Habitat Conservation Program focuses on:

  • Protecting biodiversity and restoring forest and stream habitats;

  • Maintaining riparian buffers to improve water quality and aquatic life;

  • Designating conservation areas for old-growth and second-growth forests that support species such as the marbled murrelet and spotted owl;

  • Reducing road-related sedimentation through continuous maintenance, upgrades, and monitoring.

These measures strengthen ecosystem health, promote sustainable forestry, and secure a balanced coexistence between forest operations and wildlife for generations to come.

Forest & Road Restoration

our forest restoration efforts focus on restoring the natural balance between conifers and hardwoods. In areas where hardwoods have overtaken conifers, we use targeted herbicide applications to reduce hardwood dominance, followed by replanting with native conifer species. This approach has successfully returned many degraded stands to healthy young forests.

We also use herbicides selectively to control invasive species and support native vegetation.

In addition, we invest heavily in road restoration and maintenance, upgrading and decommissioning old or poorly designed roads to reduce sediment flow into streams and improve water quality. These projects include drainage improvements, culvert replacements, and bridge installations to protect fish habitats and watershed health.

Through these actions, Loggers Community Company Ltd promotes sustainable forestry, enhances biodiversity, and ensures long-term ecological balance.

FSC® Certification

There are many models for business success, but few that define true forest stewardship. About six months after beginning operations, Loggers Community Company Ltd committed to achieving Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification — one of the highest global standards for responsible forest management.

FSC certification represents a voluntary, market-based approach to promoting sustainable forestry through independent evaluations based on strict environmental, social, and economic standards. It also includes a chain-of-custody system that tracks wood products from our certified forests to the final consumer, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Loggers Community Company Ltd is proud to manage all its forest operations in accordance with FSC principles, reaffirming our long-term commitment to sustainable forest management and responsible business practices.

All certifications are reviewed annually and fully re-evaluated every five years to maintain compliance with global forestry standards.
